And we thought our junctions were bad!!

In this time lapse video we see the intersection at Meskel Square, the nerve center of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

While the square is a primary site for the city’s large festivals and celebrations, it is also a chaotic crossroad for thousands and  thousands of vehicles daily.   This is organized confusion at its finest.

I would like to see a cycle lane through this lot !!!

Bike Security Marking – Romford Market outside LLoyds – Saturday 7 Feb 11:00 to 13:00

Don’t forget the Havering Safer Transport team hold a bike security marking session outside LLoyds Bank in Romford Market on the first Saturday of each month from 11:00 to 13:00. We will be there to give general cycling advice.

On the first Saturday of the month the police set up a stall in Romford Market and offer free cycle marking/tagging. Getting your bike marked and added to the BikeRegister database discourages thieves and enables the police to return recovered stolen bikes. The police can also offer the advice on the best way to counter bike theft.

The police also hold other special bike marking events across the borough.

For more information about upcoming bike marking events visit the Havering Safer Transport Team website or call them on 020 8721 2254

Beam Valley Bridge Open – Update your cycling routes

I went walking this morning and found that the new Beam Valley Bridge is now open. There is still some work to do such as finishing off the path from Bretons to the bridge but other than that it is open for use. I am not sure when the formal opening will be.

I took some pictures.  Ray Whitehouse
